HHS releases $3.6 billion in first FY 2027 LIHEAP funding
On October 9, 2026, the federal Office of Community Services released $3,631,860,000 in LIHEAP block grant funding for fiscal year 2027. That is 90% of the annualized amount under the current continuing resolution. States can now fund this winter's heating help.
The release came under the Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2027 (Pub. L. 119-103). Of the total, $3,587,894,233 goes to states, D.C. and territories and $43,965,767 to tribes, according to ACF. The American Public Power Association noted that the remaining 10% depends on future appropriations. What it means for you: your state's LIHEAP office can open or expand applications. Check your state page for how to apply.
